"Wild Witchcraft" and "A Witch Alone"
Marian Green
I am very fond of these books. Marian Green is very easy to read and explains herself very clearly. An excellant starting point for understanding the idea of Solitary Witchcraft.

"A Complete Guide to Psychic Development" and "Practical Guide to Witchcraft and Magick Spells" and "Every Woman a Witch"
Cassandra Eason
Cassandra has to be my favourite writer. She has written books on every area of the craft and yet everything she writes is so fresh. She uses everyday examples to explain complicated areas and her wealth of knowledge certainly shows. These three books are essential reading for beginners. Psychic Development was the first book of this type I purchased and was hooked.

"A Beginners Guide to....Spells and Rituals/Herbs and Magic for Ritual/Witchcraft"
Teresa Moorey.
I like these Beginners Guides - they are short, sweet and to the point. They cover a wealth of information - but not too much to boggle the beginner. Again an easy to read style of writing. These books are not as expensive as some either. Recommended reading if you like you information in short chunks!

" Hocus Pocus", "Titania's Star Tarot" and "Witch in the Kitchen"
Titania Hardie
OK, Hocus Pocus really was the book that got me to get up and become an active Witch. I have every book, cards, etc by Titania, except Star Tarot and Witch in the Kitchen as they are not yet available! Some people totally discount Titania - I think, especially in the UK she bought Witchcraft and spells to the masses and the Craft gained some very good and solid members who may not have chosen that path otherwise. The brushed velvet books are a totally tactile experience in themselves. May be a bit heavy for some beginners, but should certainly keep their attention!

"Wicca"
Scott Cunningham
This is a very good solid book on Wicca. It maybe more of intermediate than total beginner, but again covers some very good issues concerning the Wiccan side of the Craft. Unlike the previous books featured, it is not a book to delve into ad-lib - it needs to be read thoroughly. His Book of Shadows is a good guide for building your own.

"Gypsy Magic"
Patrinella Cooper
This gives you an insight into the often misunderstood world of Romany Gypsy magic. This is a totally charming book and highly readable. It enables the reader to understand the significance of nature from a nature dweller's perspective. One can also assimulate to the Romany way of life and how they uised their magic as part of everyday living.

"Witches Date Books and Calenders"
Llewellyn's
These are fantastic for Moon Phases, times of when the different planets move into different signs, correspondances, etc. It is laid out as a one week over 2 pages diary and is filled with so much information about Witchcraft. There are Sabbat rituals, recipes, and incense recipes, planet and zodiac correspondances, planting and harvesting times, plus articles on, like this years, Goddesses and last year the significance of gingerbread. As an American book, you have to watch this very carefully - the times they say planets enter signs and moon phases, etc, are in Eastern Standard Time, (EST), and you have to take into account the time zones for you ritual and spell workings. For example, the UK is approximately 5 hours ahead so if the datebook suggest a new moon is rising at 9pm EST then you have to count back 5hrs to get the UK time - e.g. the New Moon would be rising at 4pm GMT. I am not sure how British Summertime works against this. However, being the only decent book of it's kind available, it is very useful. Perhaps someone may produce a UK and European version one day!
-Other Books-
"Water Witches"
Tony Steele
I have no graphic for this but it can be found in book shops and at Amazon.co.uk. This book will throw the Gardinarian followers with it's revelation about the origins of Gardinarian Wicca! This is a heavy read, but also quite essential to understand certain aspects of Witchcraft and also how it can be manipulated to one's own end. Keep and open mind on things, the story of the Frisians goes back many hundreds of years. Read it, not as your first book, but as an accompanyment at a later date - but do read it!
"The Druid Way"
PhillipCarr-Gomm
Again, another heavier book to read, but again it gives a very good picture of Druidry and Paganism as a whole. Another book to get you thinking and questioning. That, I believe is the best way to learn the Craft; learn and question and make your choice.
"The Encyclopedia of Arthurian Legends"
Ronan Coghlan
A total must for anyone who has a bent for Aurthurian legend like myself. Every character, place symbol, story, etc of the legends is explained in detail. If you assimulate to the legends, then this is excellant for understanding the Goddess' and Gods.
"The Mystery of Trees and Flowers"
Lesley Gordon
This is wonderful for understanding the flora correspondances and for trees and plants in general. Also includes some beatiful pictures.
"The Gardeners Folklore"
Margaret Baker
Just a fantastic little book with all sorts of folklore - even some Witchcraft. Understanding the Earth and Seasons was what our ancestors we expert at. They understood the way certain plants blossomed at certains times of the year would bring a good or bad harvest. Weather watching and understanding the soil. It also has useful gardening tips too! It's quite an old book and may need to be tracked in second-hand book shops.
These are just a handful of books to try. In time I hope to build you up a fully sectioned library with your feedback. Please tell me about any other books you have read and we can include them here.
